Amanda Ramirez
With a charismatic and dynamic personality and great passion for journalism, Amanda Ramírez, has achieved her goal of becoming an important element in the process of informing the South Florida community of the news that interests them the most.
Amanda is the producer of ‘Ahora En Nuestra Comunidad’, the one-hour community affairs show for Univision 23 and Telefutura 69, which was previously known as ‘Miami Ahora’. The young woman, not only produces the show, she is also the street reporter for ‘Ahora En Nuestra Comunidad’, covering local events and news for the viewers of both stations. She also carries the title of official reporter for the ‘Tu Ciudad Cultural’ arts and culture segment which airs regularly on ‘Ahora En Nuestra Comunidad’.
Her experience in the journalistic field is impressive. After only 4 years in the journalism field, she has already been recognized with two Emmy Award, one in 2008 and another in 2009, for stories she produced and reported for at Univision 23. She also won a Silver Angel Gabriel Award and as a student, was recognized by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, when she received their prestigious student scholarship. This award opened the door to her career in broadcast journalism at Univision 23.
Since then, Amanda has focused her journalism career mainly on local news of interest to the South Florida community and has worked with important and recognized news organizations at her young age.
Her work has extended during recent years. Now, not only does she cover public affairs topics for the weekly community affairs show on Univision 23 and Telefutura 69, she also covers breaking news stories as a reporter for Univision 23’s ‘Noticias 23 Al Amanecer’ (morning newscast), ‘Noticias 23’ (6 p.m. newscast) and the ‘Noticias 23, Fin de Semana’ (weekend newscast).
In January 2008, Amanda took another step in her journalist career when she became the official reporter for ‘En La Calle’, the daily traffic segment on the ‘Noticias 23, Al Amanecer’ morning newscast.
The journalist has also had the opportunity to travel inside the United States to cover news stories, bringing important national information to the local South Florida community.
Amanda is a young, energetic and passionate journalist. In 2002 she moved from Puerto Rico, where she grew up, to continue her college education in the journalism field at Florida International University. In December 2005, she graduated from the journalism program at FIU and was recognized with the Cum-Laude title because of her exceptional grades.
Her years at FIU proved to be very rewarding. The university was precisely where Amanda entered the print journalism field, shen she became a reporter for FIU’s weekly newspaper.
Before beginning her work at Univision 23 in 2005, Amanda was also a recognized student journalist for The Miami Herald. She was in charge of reporting for the Kendall community, writing approximately two articles per week. As she worked on the field, her passion for journalism grew and Amanda took her job as a print reporter to the next level, when she began taking photographs for the articles she wrote. Many of these photographs were printed on the cover of the Kendall Neighbors section of The Miami Herald.
In June 2005, Amanda was able to make the transition she had long wanted to make, leaving behind print journalist and entering into the broadcast news field, when she was given a great opportunity to become a student intern at Univision 23 in Miami. During her internship for the Hispanic news organization, Amanda learned as much as she could, including how to produce the weekly community affairs show, ‘Miami Ahora’.
When she graduated in 2005, Amanda obtained the official full-time position as producer for ‘Miami Ahora’. This position opened many doors for the journalist and was the starting point of her career in the broadcast news field which has continued to grow throughout the last 3 years.
